Shaft Recovery

Where there is a damaged or failed bearing there is almost always a damaged shaft. Bearings can be re-ordered but sometimes it’s not always as easy or practical to replace the shaft. It could mean stripping out a complete machine or gearbox just to remove the shaft. Combine this with the loss in production, expensive transportation, repair costs and then the re-installation, it all adds up! Metalock Engineering UK Ltd can help reduce all those costs.

Consider a repair in situ!

Cost effective, accurate, quick, and reducing expensive downtime.

We must always have datum’s from which to set our equipment, the correct parent metal specification to determine what type of weld or metal spraying procedure to adopt and finally a detailed drawing of the component.

During these repairs the shaft remains static and the tool rotates around the shaft.

  • Orbital machining - Super; finishingThis method is generally used when salvaging crankshafts on large marine diesels engines.
  • Orbital machining - shrink on sleeve - final orbital machine
  • Orbital machining - orbital welding - final orbital machining
  • Orbital machining - metal spraying - final orbital machiningWe can also carry out the same type of repairs in reverse on worn bore locations using our in-situ boring equipment.
  • We can also adopt the same techniques in the repair of worn or damaged bore locations using our in-situ welding and boring equipment.
